There’s nothing like a fun winter day followed by a cozy night.
SNOWSHOE:
First up, a day on snowshoes! Snowshoes are a great way to explore when the snow is deep and you aren’t looking to get snow in your boots, or if you want a little extra razzle dazzle on the trail. It also makes for great exercise. Here in Caledon, you can opt to bring your own to a trail or rent at a few different spots. One option is heading to Campbell’s Cross Farms where your rental includes 1.5 hours of self guided snowshoeing on the farm. Terra Cotta Conservation Area will have rentals available in the new year. For a bonus activity, attend the Ignite the Night event at Terra Cotta on Saturdays from January 4th-March 1st! While you snowshoe, you can see the dazzling lights illuminating the trail.
HIKING TRAILS:
Yes, it’s cold, but that doesnt mean winter hikes are off the table. This is an underrated time of year to hit the trails. Experience the quiet of winter with a scenic trail walk. Caledon’s parks and trails have an option for every hiker. Whether you’re looking for a quick leisurely walk, or to spend a few hours on the trail, we have a park for you. You might be lucky enough to spot a fox, white-tailed deer or of course a variety of birds. Some of our recommendations include the Terra Cotta Conservation Area, Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, Caledon Trailway and Bruce Trail. Remember-plan before you go as all parks have different hours and entry fees. To view all of them, click here.
FAT BIKING:
Experience the trails on 2 wheels! Fat bikes are bikes with wide tires that are meant to go on more difficult terrain including snow. This activity is a joy for avid cyclists that don’t want to put their bikes away until the spring-or perfect for anyone looking to experience winter through a new lens. Visitors are welcome to bring their own bikes to the trails, or rent at Albion Hills Conservation Park.
HORSEBACK RIDING:
One of our favourite ways to experience the rural Caledon charm is on hooves. Horseback riding is the perfect way to reconnect with nature while interacting up close with these noble steeds. Booking a trail ride in the winter is one of the best times of year. With a blanket of white covering the trails, you can feel the magic. For a guided experience, check out either Teen Ranch, or Rusty Jade Ranch. See you at the stables!
SKATING:
Skating is perfect for a fun family adventure with the kiddos, or a romantic date night with a special someone. Whatever the occasion, we all know skating is a winter classic. Here in Caledon, you’ve got a few different options for where you’ll hit the rink. If you’re looking for an indoor rink, or an outdoor loop in the park, you can keep updated on the town website for the conditions of each rink and when they are open.
OUTDOOR POOLS:
Is relaxation calling your name this season? Picture this: the air is crisp. Snowflakes are gently falling all around you. You are immersed in nature, listening to the birds, all while soaking in an outdoor hot springs pool. Experience this serenity at the Millcroft Inn and Spa. Hydrotherapy makes for a great post-adventure activity, or it can be THE activity of the day. Make this winter whatever you want it to be!
CROSS COUNTRY SKI:
Cross country skiing is a fun way to stay active with a snowy landscape. Whether you're gliding along at a peaceful pace or pushing yourself to cover more ground, it’s a fantastic way to enjoy the season. This activity is great for beginners and seasoned skiers alike, offering a blend of tranquility and challenge. Bring your own skis to a trail or rent a pair at Terra Cotta Conservation Area or Albion Hills Conservation Park.
DISC GOLF:
No, it’s not traditional golf, but it’s just as much fun! Disc golf-also called frisbee golf-is gaining popularity for good reason. Combining the precision of golf with the energy of ultimate frisbee, the goal is to toss the disc into the basket in as few throws as possible. It’s the perfect winter sport, keeping you active along the trail while adding a bit of friendly competition. Play at Albion Hills Conservation Park!
